I'll try to keep this as brief as possible review because the "game Dev Story" (GOS) has much to offer. The temptation to write a treatise on page 100 is strong, but we will have to suffice with a brief rundown of this deceptively deep gameplay experience.
At its core, GDS is about running a game development studio where the player is responsible for heading the operations of the company. Make you important decisions who to hire, what tasks to assign, licence consoles and develop advertising, participation in trade fairs and a hundred other things start.
If this is where the GDS begins and ends, it would be that exciting. After all, you could have a thousand different factors and variables involved in the operation of your studio, but you still need a satisfactory interaction between these elements to create a truly consistent experience. Fortunately, GDS offers in the Queen of Spades, creating an extremely rewarding feedback mechanism for all combinations which you find.
For example, you can start the game by the hiring of talent that cumulatively excels at only one or two of the 4 available statistics. However, you can choose an approach more balanced where every employee has some resistance. Although you start with only 4 people, if you earn enough money to completing contracts and releasing games, you can upgrade your desktop and be able to accommodate more employees. In turn, this means that you can achieve your goals much faster.
Another mechanic interesting in GDS is the number of "hype". This variable represents how excited your demographic for your next version. This number depends on various factors such as how you target your fans, the level of advertising and trade show attendance lead you, etc. It goes just on and on, the incentive to develop creative strategies and long-term plans is huge!
The game ends after twenty years, with your development studio. You'll be directly classified based on how many games you made and how they were received by the public. At this stage, you will have given the possibility to resume while maintaining levels in various types of games that you accumulated in your previous game - through the game.
There is so much more to this game, but I'll let my complete review you can find in the area of resources below!
